Ubuntu updating connection failed
This file is executed as part of the post-installation details for the runit package (mainly for starting up runit immediately after installation, as opposed to waiting until next system boot).
So I guess this will take more than locating the offending config file & making a change. I had previously removed virtualbox package because I noticed it had updates today, but I didn't realize that there was another package included in the offending update. I'm going to post this "question" anyway in case it helps someone else. Because it has attracted low-quality or spam answers that had to be removed, posting an answer now requires 10 reputation on this site (the association bonus does not count).
So why do errors occur, resulting in the updates failing and a dialogue box advising you to “check your Internet connection” in Ubuntu 14.04 and later.
Naturally, the first thing you will do is check your Internet connection, perhaps opening a Terminal and entering: So why won’t the Ubuntu Update Manager connect and download the updates?
The computer should use the wired network connection when it's plugged in, but automatically switch to a wireless connection when the user unplugs it and walks away from the desk.
Likewise, when the user plugs the computer back in, the computer should switch back to the wired connection.
